Well, I've got a lot of things I want to talk about and some half-written posts, but life has been so crazy
I haven't really been able to get everything down. It was a rough week last week. So that's on the way. Anyway, this morning,
they dropped the first real trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. Gonna record my reaction after lunch and put it here. I'm writing this
before I've seen it. After Thunderbolts*, I was nervous but cautiously optimistic about Doomsday. For the MCU, I care more about
the overarching story of the MCU than the quality of any individual movie. If I just want to watch a movie, I can go see any other
movie. I keep coming back to the MCU because of continuity. Regardless of quality, there still really isn't anything like the MCU
in terms of telling stories across 40, 50 movies like this, so even if the movies suck sometimes, I can excuse it. Unfortunately,
MCU leadership have shit the bed in terms of telling an overarching story the past two phases. It doesn't even feel like these
movies take place in the same universe sometimes. Back in the Infinity Saga, you had Falcon in Winter Soldier, then he shows
up in Ant-Man. You have Doctor Strange, then he shows up in Thor Ragnarok. It's more than just cameo bait, it rewarded you
for keeping up with the MCU and made the world feel cohesive and connected. As for the Multiverse Saga, where has Shang-Chi
been for the past 5 years? It just feels so aimless and decentralized. It's genuinely, insanely stupid that they didn't have a smaller-
scale teamup/Avengers movie in the past few years. We got a little bit of that in The Marvels, which I think is better as a piece
of the MCU than as a movie because it brings characters from so many different parts of the universe together. My favorite
moment was when they had those Skrull refugees or something and Carol is like "Ok I know a guy" and then Valkyrie shows up
on the Bifrost. That's the kind of connections I want to be seeing man! Like why has not a single soul tried to form an Avengers
team until Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Not a SINGLE person even tried? Get off your ass Nick Fury! KAMALA KHAN tried to form a team
before you did, queen that she is, even though, to my dismay, they'll probably be sidelined in this Doomsday bullshit. Anyway,
the more I see from this movie the more I think it's going to be a shitshow. The MCU has been a shitshow for a while, but I told
myself, "Yes, it's a mess, there's no connection, there's no cohesion, but if the Russos can pull it off and pull together every thread
of the past 7 years, maybe I can walk away from this saga satisfied." I just don't think it's gonna happen. Especially with the
addition of the X-Men, I'll get to that later. They're not going to care about the people like me who have continued to see their
mid-ass movies through it all just for the love of it, they're going to throw everything away and pander to the people who have
only seen Spider-Man, GOTG, and Deadpool. Moon Knight? Who's that? Kate Bishop? Stop talking crazy. We got the Fantastic
Four and omg it's James Marsden! Seriously, the X-Men being here upsets me so much. The MCU is already a mess, but instead
of trying to pull everything together, they're adding a bunch of characters that will take screentime from the characters that
have ACTUALLY BEEN SET UP BY THE MOVIES AND TV SHOWS!!!!! I DON'T CARE!!! Deadpool and Wolverine was supposed to
be saying goodbye to the Fox universe, so WHY ARE WE BRINGING THEM BACK!!!!!
Ok, calming down. I'm going to go watch the trailer and report back. Maybe it will forever change my beliefs, or
maybe it will confirm what I've known for a long time: the MCU is a dead man walking.
